Ameen Sayani started his formal broadcasting career in 1951 with Radio Ceylon. The number of programmes he has compered, and been a part of, would be over 54,000, and the number of jingles over 19,000.

Which programme do you wish you had produced and couldn't ?
AS:
I'd have loved to do a long series of programmes on "War on Waste", covering the entire gamut of personal, professional, civic and governmental areas where wastage ruins the economy, stifles growth, inhibits progress - and creates confusion, corruption, strife and pollution. I firmly believe that no entertainment can really succeed unless it has a strong under-current of social relevance - and vice versa.

Fill us in on any other little-known facets of your life ?
AS:
I come from a family that was deeply involved with the freedom movement. I imbibed my education from teachers and real-life heroes who shaped me into an idealist with a touch of practicality, a promoter of fun and goodwill with a sense of responsibility.
